In this diet, inflammatory foods are minimized and healthy anti-inflammation foods are maximized. There is no calorie counting or portion control; no measuring and no restrictive meal plans or other typical diet regulations and limits. Instead, we describe a natural, ad libitum or free eating approach that simulates the lifestyles of ancient human beings in paleolithic, pre-agricultural times.

In ancient times, men and women did not count calories. They did not measure out portions of food. They did not undergo rigorous exercise programs. What did they do? They ate all they wanted throughout the day, and that diet varied tremendously depending on the season, the availability of animal and plant based foods, and so on.
